This property has been empty for years, but clearly used to be a bodega/convenience store of some kind. There’s a notice up saying that Charles Emor wants to change the license for a deli/prepared food shop. This sounds like good news, but after I googled Charles Emor, to perhaps read about other businesses ventures he might own, all I found was stories about a Charles Emor who ran a DC charter school and was sentenced 1 year in prison for his part in a stolen computers ring. I have no idea if this is the same Charles Emor, but it’s quite a rare name – there are only 3 in the United States. So, I think odds are it is. While I’m not sure that it matters, it’s all I could find when Googling, so I thought I’d share.

And so what if he is the same person? I’m inclined to think that it is a good thing, not a bad thing, when those who have committed crimes return to productive society.

I’m not sure it does matter, it was just the only information I could find out about the possible owner, and thought I should share.

Let’s just see if it’s ‘cash only’.

Okay.
Since the sentence begins “While this may sound like good news . . . .” it sounded like you wanted to imply that your discovery counted as not-good news.
In any case, if he makes tasty sandwiches, I don’t much care whether he stole computers once. In fact, even if he makes bad sandwiches, it would be a big improvement over the current vacancy.

(“While this sounds like good news . . . ” not “While this may sound like good news . . .”)

Fair enough, I’ll change the wording. When I was writing it I was tired, had a long day, and wasn’t really thinking about what I might be implying.

Thanks! By the way, this is one of my favorite blogs– I don’t mean to be giving you too hard of a time.

Well thanks, and feel free to call me out on anything that warrants it – I’m certainly not perfect.

I have always thought the sight was perfect for an upscale corner store, deli. Wine, cheese, sandwiches, coffee, artisan bread, etc. There is even a space on the east side for a small outdoor area with tables (if the proprietor wants to go through the DC permit process). It seems to be used now as a catering kitchen so to open up the front as a deli makes a lot of sense. It will be very good to see some commerce on the street that will contribute to people out on the street. I walk my dogs by there several times a week. I say Charles should go for it and I wish him luck.

Further charges were brought against Charles Emor for stealing $2.4 million in government special education grants. He is no longer tied to the proposed establishment at 12 & S Street NW.
