I’m a 20-something writer living in the U street corridor. I’ve lived in DC for 8 years, but after moving to the U street corridor about 4 years ago, I really started to fall in love with the city. Listen to my musings on DC, food, media, and life on U street, among other topics.

Hey DC girl-how are you preparing for the inauguration? I think it would be a good subject for your blog. I understand that DC will be a nightmare in that the parking will be impossible, rooms are outrageous (some hotels are charging $15,000 per night and the parks department needs 13,000 portapotties. A lot of DCers just want to get out of town.

Hey, I just read your post about trying to file for unemployment and the number always being busy. I’m encountering the same problem, I was able to file online, but “benefits cannot be paid at this time because there is an unresolved issue on my claim.” Ughhhh! I’ve been trying to call for two days and the number is always busy. What did you do? Were you finally able to get through? Have you seen any money?

  3. ustreetgirl Says:

Hey Meredith, I actually was able to get in touch with someone, someone at DC’s Department of Employment Services read my post and got in touch with me promptly. If you don’t mind, I’ll email you their information and hopefully they can help you as well.

Happily, I never saw any money because a few days after I finally filed I got a job. I hope you have the same luck.

    Hey ustreetgirl,

Love your blog. Thanks for posting the picture of Solly’s (“Solly’s has a hell of a sense of humor”).

  5. Neighbor Says:

Heads up that Ch. 7 and likely at least one other station are doing reports tonight about the Great Dry Cleaning Caper at 14th & U. I just walked past the shop and 7’s van was parked outside with its microwave mast raised and another unmarked news van was parked outside Rite Aid (just parked, no mast, no newsy activity).

Tried to email you but…you have no email listed!

    Hey, great blog!

I’m also a U street denizen, and I love reading your posts to find out what’s going on in our neighborhood. I check daily to see if you’ve posted new material. It’s always super informative–thanks for many good reads.

    Keep up the great work!

It’s official. Matchbox has signed a lease for a new restaurant at the corner of 14th and T streets. It is set to open sometime in 2012. The turn-of-the-century space formerly housed a bowling alley, jazz club, and most recently, Arena Stage’s rehearsal hall. It will be Matchbox’s fifth location in the area after Gallery Place, Capitol Hill (above), Rockville, and Merrifield (which also opens in 2012).

  11. Hi! I found your blog on the main WordPress website when I was searching for food blogs. I live in the MD/DC/VA area and just wanted to say I think your blog’s a super cool idea. Look forward to browsing around more!
