I stopped by Touchdown, the new sports bar at the old MoMo’s space on U street, last night. They are open for business today. Touchdown is on two floors (as of now, they have a third floor that hasn’t opened yet) with tons of flatscreen TVs (I counted over 15) and a pretty basic beer and bar food menu. I had a few of the appetizers they were serving last night, and while none were amazing, all were pretty good. If you stop by, tell me what you think in the comments.

Missy Frederick reports more information about the forthcoming Codmother and Touchdown at the old Cafe Nema/MoMo’s space. She confirms the rumor that the owners of next door Tabaq Bistro are behind the new concepts. She also reveals that the brothers who own the restaurant are also part of a group that manages neighboring Bistro La Bonne and Utopia down the block (news to me).

Touchdown will feature 15 high-definition TVs and offer basic sports food fare like as wings, burgers, and ribs. Codmother will stick to the basics of fish and chips. No news of a potential opening date.

Kind of sounds like a rehash of what was there previously, minus the African food: a new restaurant and sports bar are coming to the old Cafe Nema/MoMo’s spot at 1334 U Street. Touchdown, a sports bar will open on the top level with the Codmother, a fish joint to be on the bottom level. Rumors are that the brothers behind Tabaq Bistro next door are opening this new joint. Well Michael Fonseca, a D.C. attorney, is the name on the permits so that doesn’t tell us much. I’ll keep an eye out on progress and keep you updated.
