Terrific Inn

Taking a stroll over the weekend, as the weather was beautiful, I walked down a block I hadn’t in a while: the 1200 block of T street. I feel like I’d noticed this building before, but couldn’t remember what it was: Terrific Inn/Inc – which appeared to me to be an inn. There were also somewhat creepy descriptors on the sign: care, touch, smile. I just couldn’t help but picture this wacky inn that drew in tourists that didn’t know any better.

So, I took to the internet: TERRIFIC actually stands for Temporary Emergency Residential Resource Institute for Families in Crisis – and is a nonprofit organization that provides housing, care, and social services to families in crisis. The organization has been around since 1987, when they opened Grandma’s House as a home for abandoned, abused, neglected, prenatally-drug exposed and HIV-infected children. The building on T street is actually a 14 unit, subsidized housing complex for elderly and disabled persons.

So, if you’ve ever walked by Terrific Inc. and wondered what exactly they did: now you know. And if you’re looking for a place to volunteer, you can be a big brother or sister or help by assisting direct care providers, providing professional and clerical services, or fundraising.

According to police, the murders of a couple, Audrey Bryant and Keith Jordan,  in Fort Washington might be related to the murder on T street early Tuesday morning. The Post reports that the couple killed in Fort Washington was close friends with Fitzergerald, the murder victim on T street. One of Bryant’s sons had performed at Pure on Monday night, near where Fitzgerald was murdered. The police have also recovered a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle leaving both crime scenes and are processing it for evidence.

There’s a lot to update on this morning. I was happily thinking how there wasn’t much violence over the holiday weekend, and then I see this:

At about 12:20 AM today a male subject was fatally shot while in the 1300 block of T St. Preliminary invetigation (sic) indicates it was not a random assault. If anyone has information please call 202 727-9099. Thank you

I’ll update more as information becomes available.

UPDATE: MPD has identified the victim as 25-year-old Carl Ashton O’Neil
Gray Fitzgerald

PS, why is no one else reporting on this? Other than Borderstan, I haven’t seen anything, not on DCist, Washington City Paper, or the Post (not a huge surprise). This is a well known, relatively safe area and to me it seems like a pretty big story…
