I was sad to read that after 8 years on U Street, Nana, the great boutique at 15th/U, is moving to Mt. Pleasant after the winter holidays. Owner Jackie Flanagan signed a lease at 3068 Mount Pleasant Street, formerly the Mount Pleasant Deli. The new location will be bigger and closer to Flanagan’s house in Mt. Pleasant.

While I’m sad to see the store leave U Street, it’s not like they’re going far. I’ll post more information about exactly when the current store is closing and the new one is opening when I hear more.

AmaniDC, a nonprofit boutique, is having its grand opening today and tomorrow in Mt. Pleasant. Amani is a peace-building organization that helps East African women fleeing from conflict and poverty. Their boutique sells handbags, jewelry, home goods, and children’s items made by the women. The organization is self-sustainable, operating on the profits made by selling the items.

Their DC store is opening at 3166 Mt. Pleasant Street and will celebrate their grand opening today from 2-7 pm and tomorrow from 11 am-4 pm. The events will feature raffles, free gifts with $25 purchase, African chai, and refreshments. I urge you to make it over to the grand opening, what a wonderful way to support a great cause.
