Activation 2719, painting by Fransisco Esteban

So I realize a  lot of my entries have been about Activation 2719, it’s partially because not much else has been going on, and because it was rescheduled twice. Also, I was pretty excited to go. The opening night was a great time: good art, cool people, fun music, great beer (Dogfish Head). I wasn’t able to get there till late, so I missed any food/live music that was featured earlier in the night.

While opening night was a lot of fun, the gallery will be open for the next 2 weekends, so if you weren’t able to make it out on Saturday, go over next few weekends. They’ll also have a closing reception on March 12th.

And check out my photos from the event on my Flickr set.

There are two excellent art events happening in the ‘hood this weekend, try to check out at least one or both:

  • Mental Map by Ted Milligan (courtesy of Plan B)

Activation 2719 – which we’ve talked about before, is finally happening this Saturday from 6-11 pm. RSVP online here. I’m doing my best to go (have dinner plans) and if so will report back later about the show.

  • The opening reception for Plan B’s February Exhibition featuring paintings by Ted Milligan is happening this Saturday from 6-8 pm. The show also features photographs by Charlie Gaynor, Juditha, and David Young. The reception will feature the artists and light refreshments. The exhibit will be open through March 7th.

UPDATE: The event has been moved to next Saturday, the 20th. More info here.

ReadySetDC and No Kings Collective are hosting a pop-up gallery in a newly refurbished row house in Columbia Heights, and the show is called Activation 2719. Snow permitting, the opening party for the gallery will be this NEXT Saturday February 20th from 6-11, featuring Tim “Con” Conlon, Decoy, James Walker, Emily Green Liddle, Bryan Rojsuontikul, Diana Cruz, Batool AlShomran, Aniekan Udofia as well as No Kings Collective themselves Brandon Hill Francisco Esteban, and Peter Chang. What’s really cool about this show is it’s curated by the artists, which is a rare event.

The opening night will have a bar, food provided by Commonwealth Gastropub, and music by DJ Fleg, DJ Tom Lim, Sheena Alexis, DJ Phil Real, DJ Smudge, and Bull Fight Academy.

There’s no price of admission but you do need to RSVP by 3 pm today to go to opening night. Otherwise the gallery is open Fridays Noon–8 pm and Saturdays 10am – 5pm through March 6ththe 27th.
