This isn’t really news you want to wake up to (understatement of the year?). Last night, a man, after being refused entry to DC9 (9th and U) smashed the window of the club with a brick. MPD says that three to five people came out of DC9 and severely beat the man. He was found around 2:30 in the morning, taken to the hospital and declared dead.

UPDATE: There are reports that 5 employees of DC9 have been charged in relation to the murder. Looks like the club will be closed for the near future.

UPDATE 2: The owner of DC9 and four employees have been arrested and charged with second degree murder. I’m shocked. Police identified the victim as 27-year-old Ali Ahmed Mohammed, of Silver Spring. DC9 will be closed at least tonight and for up to 96 hours.

But that’s not it. DCist reports: “DC9 employees are disputing Lanier’s statement. NBCWashington.com filmed this statement from DC9 employee and witness Damon Dixon, who also said that none of the people who were arrested “have [it] in them” to assault someone the way Lanier described. Former D.C. Council candidate Bryan Weaver tweets that a friend who was at the club last night told him that the man was “alive and in MPD custody for at least 45 minutes.”
