Buried deep in Borderstan’s great profile of 1905’s owner, Tony Lucca, was this nugget of news: he’s thinking of expanding with a roof deck. I did some research and there are no permits in place (or pending) – but this is exciting news. I had written off 1905 (9th and T) before, after a few lackluster experiences there, but foodie friends on Twitter have told me to give it another chance. Borderstan’s profile also hints that they have revamped the menu, which I welcome.

We ate there last night for the first time (yes, we paid!) at half-price burger night. It was excellent… and a pretty good crowd for a Wednesday night right after Labor Day. Tony has totally revamped the place.
The roof deck is definitely in the works and he has had extensive conversations with neighbors in the back of the building.

1905 was a once great place, ’til they fired their old chef. RIP 1905.

1905 is a cozy paradise. Porkslap Pale Ale…Taco Tuesdays…brioche French toast…absinthe…If you can’t love these things, you can’t love anything.

RIP 1905??? every time i’ve been there they seem to be thriving! the borderstan article was spot on – new ownership, new chef, new 1905. it was, no doubt, a rough start for them, but they’ve finally hit their stride. the food, drinks, service, atmosphere, etc., have been nothing short of impressive for a while now. i hope they’re around for many years to come. and bring on that roof deck!!!

Welles is wack. I love the 1905 chef. The crab cakes are to die for. Yum.

I was there about two weeks ago on a Friday evening and was terribly disappointed by the food – I got the daily special – filet mignon with veggies and a potato puree. The filet was actually medalions and they were really fatty and chewy. My friend ordered the only veg option- the ravioli. They may have been good but the sauce they were in was so hideous it was hard to tell – worse than the cheap jar stuff. The service and ambiance was great though – maybe we just hit them on an off-night.
