U street movie series

This sounds like so much fun! The Friends of Harrison Recreation Center, the U Street Neighborhood Association, Meridian Hill Neighborhood Association, ANC 1B and MidCity Business Association have organized a U street movie series.  The summer movie series (free!) will pay homage to the musical and culturally diverse roots of greater U Street, with a series of documentaries and films about musicians.

The schedule will be:

  • June 8: Michael Jackson’s This Is It (rain date June 15)
  • July 13: Buena Vista Social Club (rain date July 20)
  • August 10: The Soloist (rain date Aug 17)
  • September 14: Duke Ellington’s Washington and Soul Power (rain date Sept 21)

All films will be shown at the field at Harrison Recreation Center, 1330 V Street, NW. Gates will open at 7 pm. Free popcorn will be provided to the first 100 attendees beginning at 8 pm. Showtime will be at sundown around 8:30 pm.

Although the movie series is free, if you’d like to donate money for the movie series, your donation will benefit the Friends of Harrison Recreation Center, a committee of the U Street Neighborhood Association, and an official Park Partner with the DC Department of Parks and Recreation.
