Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure is taking place in DC on June 5 on the National Mall. If you don’t know, the race raises money to help end the battle on breast cancer – you run/walk a 5K and find people to sponsor you. I’ve been doing similar events (the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Boston) since I was 10 so this is a cause dear to my heart – so sign up and walk/run!
Last year, the race raised $4.7 million for local education and community outreach programs that work tirelessly to assist vulnerable populations. Thanks to a Susan G. Komen for the Cure grant, wait times for a biopsy at a major cancer center in DC were cut by 17 percent. U Street area organizations like La Clinica del Pueblo at 15th and V; Smith Farm Center for Healing and the Arts at 16th and U; and the Whitman-Walker Clinic on 14th Street have received grants from Susan G. Komen.
