Japanese maple bonsai

Japanese maple bonsai

To enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend, I headed out to the National Arboretum with a little picnic. While not a lot of plants were blooming, there was plenty to see. The koi fish pond; the bonsai tree collection (some had been growing for 300 years!); and the columns that used to be at the US Capitol. Did you know, by the way, that when they renovated the US Capitol in 1958 that they removed the original columns and that they’re now on display at the National Arboretum? Me neither. While not easy to access without a car, I’ll definitely be heading back to the National Arboretum in a few months when more flowers are blooming.
